Journal 129 – A brain runs along hurdles
The lasted research showed that physical exercises not only harden muscles and prevent of heart diseases but also improve our intellectual abilities. Prof. Charles Hilmann, from Illinois University, performed research on 259 children eight and ten years old. They made slopes, runs, pumps and crouches. Next, Hilmann compared a collegiate physical proficiency with their scores at arithmetic and reading. The most proficient students achieved the highest results in the tests. Also, Hillman took into account some differences between students, such as their family and economic situations.
In March 2007, the crucial article was published in “Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences”. The scientists described how they induced a human brain to produce the new nerve cells; they used 3-months oxidizing exercises.
Other researchers proved that intensive activity helps the nerve cells to create a new dense network of nerve connections. In this situation, a brain works faster and more efficiently. Scientists have proof that physical activity can force back the development of Alzheimer disease, psychomotor over excitability and disorders of many intellectual abilities. It shows, that independently of age, a strong and active body is a key to a strong and active mind.
I derived the above news from the article “Brain runs along hurdles”, which was published in a Polish edition “Newsweek” (April 15, 2007, number 15/2007).
